Nerstrand Big Woods Park is located south of the Twin Cities in Nerstrand, MN. It provides 11 miles of hiking trails, camping, a picnic area, and playground. It is known for its wildflowers, waterfalls, and birdwatching.
The island of woods in the vast prairie was discovered by early settlers in 1854. The woods is home to over 200 varieties of wildflowers and numerous varieties of trees, including sugar maple, oak, hickory, elm, ash, basswood, and others.
